Opportunity Information: Apply for STATE 201906

The National Historical Publications and Records Commission is inviting proposals to strengthen the country’s archival network through the support of state historical records advisory boards. The aim is to enhance preservation efforts and improve online access to historical records. Key activities include promoting best practices, engaging the public with primary sources, advancing organizations in underserved areas, and offering training for local repositories.

Grants will be awarded for various initiatives, such as: - Running state regrant programs for preserving and digitizing historical records. - Providing educational programs and workshops to engage citizens and students. - Offering scholarships and training for institutional growth, particularly for repositories in underserved communities. - Collaborating with other organizations to tackle shared challenges. - Hosting or joining meetings on archival issues at state or national levels.

Funding is available at two levels: Level I grants offer up to $12,000 for one year, while Level II grants provide up to $40,000 for one year or up to $80,000 for two years. The total available funding is approximately $800,000, with grants expected to start no earlier than January 1, 2020.

Eligibility for these grants is limited to state historical records advisory boards or the state agency overseeing the board, including those in the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories. Cost sharing is mandatory, with the NHPRC covering a maximum of 75% of the total project cost. Applicants must also be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) and provide a valid DUNS number.

Ineligible applications will not be considered, so it’s important to review the funding limitations and ensure compliance before applying.
